Role:

Based at our project site in British Columbia and reporting to the Site HR Coordinator, the Labour Relations Specialist is primarily responsible for providing Human Resources and Labour Relations services to the client group in a unionized environment.

The Labour Relations Specialist works as a part of a cohesive Human Resources team to ensure that the HR operations are aligned with the business objectives of the company as well as providing guidance and support to the project site team.  One of the key focus of the role will be to provide support on organizational culture and values, and HR programs and initiatives in conjunction with corporate Human Resources.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide HR policy and collective agreement guidance and interpretation
  • Be the go to person for questions for the client group'(s) team on human resource matters including policies and procedures, collective agreements, performance management, disciplinary matters, benefits, compensation, leaves of absence, payroll, etc.
  • Work closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention
  • Support the organization in managing Labour Relations issues from a legislative and collective agreement compliance perspective and industry best practices
  • Provide HR policy and collective agreement guidance and interpretation
  • Manage internal communication regarding new hires, promotions, transfers, discipline and termination
  • Assist the employee on-boarding and off-boarding process
  • Deliver Human Resources initiatives for project site, including coaching personnel in supervisory roles on management of unionized workforce.

Education and Professional Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business or a related discipline
  • CPHR designation is desirable

Experience and Skills:

  • At least 10 years' experience in a similar role providing project site human resources and labour relations support on large-scale projects
  • Experience in Pipeline or Oil and Gas industry is a definate asset
  • Experience with SDG payroll system is a definate asset
  • Demonstrated Labour Relations experience working within a unionized environment especially building trades
  • Well versed in all elements of British Columbia employment regulations and labour legislation
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving abilities when dealing with client group
  • Ability to quickly refocus on new priorities as required
  • Must be well organized with the ability to multi-task in a deadline driven environment, while possessing strong time management skills
