Lands Community Liaison, Lands & Stewardship

Takla Nation is a vibrant First Nation located in north central BC, with an engaging and innovative Lands & Stewardship Department, based in Prince George.  The Lands Community Liaison will be a dynamic and positive leader providing a stronger presence of the Lands department in Takla Landing and will enhance communication with membership.  The role involves support to various Lands Project Leads including project and community coordination and field support.  The role will also involve participating in community engagement with Takla members throughout the year.

Responsibilities:

  • Identification and coordination of lands monitors for Lands Projects, supporting Administration and Project Leads
  • Liaise with community members on Lands & Stewardship related issues, maintaining an issues tracker for communicating with the Lands team
  • As a back up for the hatchery technician, performing routing monitoring and maintenance at fish hatchery in Takla Landing, including any required sampling/testing
  • Support capacity building/education/training initiatives for Takla members and monitors
  • Carry out joint inspections with regulators and industry as required
  • Support preparation and delivery of community presentations
  • Coordination of community meetings in Takla Landing on behalf of Lands Department
  • Liaise with Lands Project Leads, Admin and Director
  • Occasionally carry out duties including support for:  Fisheries Programs; Water Quality Monitoring Programs; Environmental Monitoring Programs and Consultant led Archeological Programs
  • Actively engage in contributing to and accomplishing the vision, mission and goals of the Nation
  • Promoting a positive work atmostphere and communicating in a professional manner that demonstrates mutual respect
  • Data entry, management and analysis

Skills, Knowledge and Interests:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including effective problem-solving and positive attitude
  • A valid Class 5 BC driver's license and ability to travel and work in the field within the Takla territory
  • Keen interest in developing environmental and hatchery monitoring skills
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships internally and externally
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Thorough knowledge of the Takla traditional territory, its people and history
  • Willingness to work in the field and out of camps in remote locations

Location:

  • The position is largely based out of Takla Landing BC will involve regular travel with the Takla traditional territory and occasional trips to Prince George
