The support worker assistant works as part of the residential team to ensure optimal care to clients by supporting the direct care provided by residential support workers. The support worker assistant will complete tasks associated with meals, household management, transportation and on request will assist residential support workers in some care tasks. The residential support worker assistant works in cooperation with the entire team under the leadership of the Supervisor, all workers actively participate in decisions and activities which ensure that the integrity and well-being of the tenant, the Society and the Community are enhanced.
Qualifications: Education, Training & Experience Valid British Columbia class 4 drivers license (for wheelchair van) Valid emergency first aid certificate with CPR Minimum 6 months recent experience in health or human services Valid “Food Safe” certificate Or/ a comparable combination of education & experience Grade 12 Complete a criminal record check and be absent of any job-sensitive criminal record. Or other Qualifications determined to be reasonable and relevant to the level of work Skills & Abilities Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others Ability to operate related equipment Ability to organize and prioritize Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients & coworkers Key Duties and Responsibilities Assists support workers with the provision of personal care & facilitating activities of daily living Accompanies clients on outings such as appointments, shopping, and leisure activities. Receives client feedback, inquiries, and complaints, and responds as required. Purchases food, prepares and serve meals according to menu plans which are developed from time to time. Completes any and all tasks associated with the maintenance of a clean, safe and pleasing environment. Tasks include general housekeeping, shopping, occasional “deep cleaning”, yard work, minor maintenance etc. Report medical and other concerns, incidents etc. immediately as per policy Complete documentation of daily events, program data and other information as directed and as necessary. Remain apprised of all current client issues and program changes, through review of logging & other documentation and discussions with the Supervisor & co-workers. Actively participate in the rehabilitation team by providing support to team members, Sharing skills and knowledge, and providing feedback geared to the provision of optimal care. Report all concerns immediately to the Supervisor. Perform all other duties as assigned.
